Latest company news about The wind and solar resources are abundant | COENG supports multiple GW-level wind farms for grid-connected power generation.

Wind is a precious resource granted to humanity by nature. Hami City in Xinjiang boasts exceptional wind energy resources, accounting for 66.3% of the total wind power resources in the region. In recent years, Hami has focused on leveraging its resource advantages to accelerate the development and construction of wind power, actively creating high grounds for new energy industries, such as the Santanghu and Shisanjianfang projects, and building a wind power base with a capacity of millions of kilowatts. Zhongneng Electric has established a presence in Hami, Xinjiang, and with its advanced wind power converter technology, professional solutions, and efficient service team, it has supported multiple GW-level wind farms for grid-connected power generation, embarking on a magnificent journey of wind energy.

Xinjiang Hami Shisanjianfang Wind Farm

Million Kilowatts · Electrifying the Oasis

This project is the largest single wind-storage integrated project in Hami City and the first new energy project in Xinjiang to connect across regions, spanning Hami and Turpan to feed green electricity into the grid with a total capacity of 1 million kilowatts (1 GW). The project focuses on the construction of the 750 kV ring Tarim grid in Xinjiang, adhering to the principles of nearby access and efficient use, breaking regional boundaries and setting a beneficial example for innovative grid connection models. Covering an area of approximately 231 square kilometers, the project has installed 150 low-temperature wind turbines with a capacity of 6.7 MW each. All turbines are equipped with 1140V/6.7MW air-cooled doubly-fed wind power converters, known for their high efficiency, stable performance, and grid-friendly characteristics, which have earned unanimous praise from customers.

The project is located in the Shisanjianfang wind area of Yizhou District, Hami City, where there are more than 200 days a year with wind speeds above level 8, and normal winds are typically at level 4 to 5. The wind here is not only an incredibly precious resource but also a significant challenge for the construction of the wind farm. In the Hami Shisanjianfang wind area, climbing to the top of a 6.7 MW wind turbine, which is over 100 meters high, feels like being on the roof of a 30-story building. Coupled with frequent winds exceeding level 8, this adds numerous obstacles to the project's progress. COENG Electric dispatched professional after-sales and R&D personnel to the site for commissioning. Since the commissioning period coincided with the transition from spring to summer, it fell during the local windy season, with wind speeds exceeding 10 m/s for more than half of the month and temperature differences of over 20°C between morning and evening. The rugged terrain of the Gobi Desert and uneven roads posed additional challenges. However, the HeWang team maintained close communication with the customer, overcoming various difficulties to ultimately achieve full capacity grid connection for the project.

Wind power converters serve as a bridge between the grid and the turbine, enabling wind farms to achieve optimal power generation efficiency and quality. The 1140V/6.7MW air-cooled doubly-fed converter employs three-level technology, providing superior power quality, better cost-effectiveness, and a compact design that facilitates installation and layout. This product is compatible with two-level product platforms and is based on mature and reliable technology. It can withstand extreme climatic conditions, including ultra-low and high temperatures, while also demonstrating grid adaptability with capabilities for zero voltage, low voltage, and high voltage ride-through. This fully meets the demands for grid-friendly, maintenance-friendly, and energy delivery-compatible turbines in large-scale wind power projects.

Xinjiang Hami Xianshuiquan Wind Farm

Million Kilowatts · Surging Green Energy

The Santanghu wind area is one of the nine major wind areas in Xinjiang, with an annual effective wind speed of over 7,300 hours, making it one of the regions with the highest effective wind speed hours in Xinjiang. COENG Electric has supported the full-capacity grid connection of the Xianshuiquan Wind Farm in Hami, which is expected to deliver 3.074 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity to the grid each year. This project is located in the Santanghu wind area of Barkol County, Hami City, and is one of the key wind power projects planned for the construction of a wind power base with a capacity of tens of millions of kilowatts in the Hami region. The total capacity of the project is 1 million kilowatts (1 GW), utilizing 154 units of 690V/6.7MW water-cooled doubly-fed wind power converters, which have laid a solid foundation for the successful grid-connected power generation of the wind farm.

In this project, the 690V/6.7MW water-cooled doubly-fed wind power converter features a modular and lightweight design, with components widely used in existing mature platforms. This endows the product with high reliability and ease of maintenance. Core components, such as power modules, can be maintained by a single person, significantly reducing the maintenance workload. Multiple power cabinets can be quickly expanded, easily covering different power ranges. The overall structure is compact, making it suitable for various requirements of tower bases and nacelles. Additionally, the water cooling system provides a higher level of protection, perfectly adapting to the harsh conditions of the project site, including high wind and sand, as well as significant temperature differences.

During the project service process, the electrical team dispatched a professional after-sales team to the site. With a rigorous attitude and excellent craftsmanship, they carried out the installation and commissioning of the equipment. Since the converters were located in the nacelle, without a climbing device, the team had to climb the tower to conduct the commissioning, managing to adjust about 3 to 4 wind power converters per day. During this time, they encountered a sandstorm, which posed significant obstacles to the commissioning work. Nevertheless, the after-sales team remained highly motivated and worked tirelessly to achieve the project's grid connection goals, successfully completing the full-capacity grid connection with quality and efficiency, earning praise from the client.
